DAY 1: TUNIS AIRPORT / SIDI BOU SAID
Arrival at the airport, meet and greet by our guide and transfer to the Charm hotel “Dar Said” in the Mediterranean village of Sidi Bou Said. Dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 2: SIDI BOU SAID / CARTHAGE / BARDO / HAMMAMET
After breakfast we start the day by the visit of the finest museum of Tunisia the Bardo where the largest mosaic collection in the world is. We exploit all morning to visit the old part (the ancient royal palace) and the new extension where many mosaics were moved so that they won’t be trodden on any more to preserve them for the next generations.
Continuation in the afternoon to the north of Tunis to visit as many monuments as possible in Carthage such as the baths, the Tophet, the Punic harbors, the Byrsa hill, the museum of Carthage, the Basilica of Damous Karita and the water cisterns where the 130 kilometer long aqueduct fined.
Transfer to the coastal town of Hammamet (about one hour drive from Tunis). Check in at the hotel “Phenicia 4*”. Dinner and overnight.
DAY 3: HAMMAMET / EL JEM / KAIROUAN
Departure from Hammamet to El Jem where stands the largest monument left in North Africa tracing back to Roman time: the coliseum of El Jem, the Roman Thysdrus.With a capacity of 30.000 spectators, it’s the 3rd largest amphitheatre in the Roman Empire.
The building is in such good conditions that we can visit beneath the arena where wild animals were kept and we can also go up to the 3rd floor from where the view is spectacular.
Arrival at Kairaouan ,dinner and the overnight at the Boutique hotel “La Kasbah 5*”.
DAY 4: KAIROUAN / DOUGGA / TUNIS
After breakfast we start the day in Kairouan, the holiest town of Tunisia, the first city founded in 669 and 670 by Arab Muslims during the second Islamic invasion in North Africa. The city of the 100 mosques, so it’s called and at least the great mosque of Sidi Okba and the 3 door mosque will be visited as well as the mausoleum of Sidi Essahib, the shrine and the mosque, the Aghalabitan water cisterns from the 9th century and the Medina.
Departure to the archaeological site of Thugga/Dougga which is located in the North-west region of Tunisia, perched on the summit of a hill at an altitude of 571 m, dominating the fertile valley of Oued Khalled. These ruins of a complete city with all its components are a testimony to more than 17 centuries of history. They are an outstanding example illustrating the synthesis between different cultures: Numidian, Punic, Hellenistic, and Roman.
The night will be spent at the hotel 'Carlton 3* ' in Tunis .
DAY 5: TUNIS / TUNIS AIRPORT
Breakfast in the hotel of stay.
When time permitted, transfer and departure to Tunis airport.
